Popular landmark since 1940
This hospital was earlier known by the name ‘Surgical Clinic.’ It was started by Dr. U. Mohan Rau (MS, FRCS). This clinic has been a popular landmark since the 1940’s. Dr. U.Mohan Rau was not only an excellent surgeon but also a person adored for his humanitarian qualities. Countless people from all strata of life were treated by him without any bias. He was an outstanding teacher in surgery, having taught in Madras Medical College and Govt. General Hospital.
Now the hospital has been rebuilt keeping in mind the advancements in surgical procedures and treatment. It is located in the same old premises and is today known as ‘U.Mohan Rau Memorial Hospital. ‘The new set up was inaugurated by Dr. M.A.M.Ramaswamy Pro Chancellor of Annamalai University on 8th June 1995.
The hospital was managed by Dr. M. Mohan Rao until 2004. At present the Director is Dr. Ramesh Kumar Mohan Rao (General Surgeon)
